Uganda and Thailand Deepen Ties Through Peace, Medicine, and Agricultural Cooperation

Two MOUs signed with Thailand Charter of Health and AATSEA to advance holistic development in East Africa

In a powerful step toward advancing sustainable development and global friendship, the Uganda Buddhist Centre (UBC) has formalized partnerships with two key Thai organizations: the Thailand Charter of Health (TCH) and the Association of Agricultural Technology in Southeast Asia (AATSEA).

On July 7, 2025, TCH, led by Dr. Kampon Sriwatanakul, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with UBC to support long-term cooperation in:

  • Humanitarian medicine and community-based health initiatives
  • Traditional Thai herbal knowledge in support of local health resilience
  • Peace-oriented education and interfaith learning
  • Cultural exchange programs between Thailand and Uganda

Just days earlier, on July 2, 2025, UBC also signed an academic cooperation agreement with AATSEA, led by Prof. Dr. Kasem Soytong, to promote joint research and education in the field of agricultural technology. This partnership aims to:

  • Facilitate exchange of professors, scientists, and students
  • Enable joint agricultural research and publications
  • Support collaborative academic programs at the postgraduate level

Both agreements reflect a broader commitment to integrating health, agriculture, culture, and peace into one cooperative vision between Southeast Asia and East Africa.

The Guiding Light of Luang Pho Amnat

Spiritual inspiration for these efforts comes from Luang Por Amnart Opaso (หลวงพ่ออำนาจ โอภาโส), whose lifelong dedication to peace, meditation, and teaching has laid the foundation for the Land for Peace initiative. His teachings emphasize the cultivation of inner peace and the dissolution of ego as the path to sustainable global harmony.

Luang Pho Amnat’s extensive body of spiritual artwork continues to play a vital role in conveying messages of compassion, impermanence, and non-attachment across cultures. These works are envisioned as powerful tools for peace education and cultural diplomacy.

Next Steps

The initial phases of this international collaboration will include:

  • Coordinating a Thai medical delegation to Uganda
  • Supporting the development of herbal and community medicine
  • Designing pilot educational exchanges and cultural programs
  • Supporting agricultural innovation and sustainability training through AATSEA’s networks

Both TCH and AATSEA are committed to mobilizing conventional support—through academic, medical, and charitable channels—to ensure these cooperative efforts are inclusive, ethical, and sustainable.
